(The blue is around the trim is painter’s tape.)
I have always loved yellow in a kitchen, and after looking through Sherwin Williams’ paint swatches, really loved the color Buttercup. It is a bright, happy yellow. Here is what it looks like now, after painting and accessorizing:
Here are a few detailed pictures of the room. The garden window, Trixie loves laying in this window:
My turtle measuring cup, a gift from my sister, Andrea. I love turtles and he is so cute and useful:

Unfortunately painting those two walls and adding the accessories is as far as we have gotten in this room. So this post is more about what our plans are for the future of this room rather than a before and after. Here’s what we’re thinking:
-Prep and paint paneling (which will involve sanding, puttying holes, deglossing, priming, and painting).
-Repaint cabinets. (We’re going to leave them white. We just want to freshen them up.)
-Add crown molding around the entire room.
-Remove scallop trim over sink.
-Replace light above the sink.
-Possibly replace ceiling fan or add recessed lighting. (We’re still not sure exactly what we want to do.)
-Replace trim around the window. (It doesn’t match the rest of the trim in the house.)
-Caulk various areas of kitchen.
-Add shelves (possibly these) above the storage shelving we just mentioned.
-Add a command center on the pantry wall (between the shelves) or next to refrigerator. I have found lots of ideas on Pinterest (I love pinterest!), a few of my favorites can be found here, here and here.
-Refinish counter tops with Rustoleum Countertop Transformations (just not sure which color).
-Build shelves at the end of the peninsula for more storage.
-Modify the pantry (It’s CRAZY deep and very hard to reach items all the way in the back. We need some type of storage redesign here.)
-Replace old appliances with new, stainless steel appliances.
-Replace the floor.
-Maybe even change out the cabinets and counter tops completely?
All of that will certainly take lots of time to complete and some of the ideas may change over time, but that’s part of the fun doing things yourself! How about you? Do you have lots of plans for a certain room in your home? Have you lived with something for a while to figure out what you would love and work best? We would love to hear from you. Leave a comment.
